From Patagonia, Chile to Choquequirao, Peru, Alladale Wilderness Reserve, Scotland, Denali National Park and Reserve, Alaska and more, National Geographic shares their best travel photos of the year, inviting readers to explore the globe through 17 “stunning images” from their contributors.

According to Reuters: “Throughout the year, desperate scenes of flooding, famine, and fires came in the wake of decades of global inaction on the climate crisis. Some unexpected moments burst through – a sharp, public slap at the Academy Awards ceremony; a sudden uprising of Canadian truck drivers; the assassination of the former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. AFP shares their best 2022 photographs in the world of sports, some of which include USA’s coach Andrea Fuentes’ suspenseful rescue of Anita Alvarez during the Budapest World Aquatics Championships; Roger Federer’s and Rafael Nadal’s tearful moment after the former played his final match at the Laver Cup in London; as well the Philippines’ Carlos Adriel Yulo’s competition during the Men’s Floor Exercise at the World Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool.
