‘Emilia Pérez’ And ‘The Bear’ Lead Golden Globe Nominations

The 82nd Annual Golden Globe Awards will take place early next year. “Emilia Pérez” leads in film with 10 nominations.

In anticipation for next year’s awards ceremony, the Golden Globes committee has announced all the nominees, honoring exemplary films, television shows, performances, and more.

Leading Films

Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez leads in film nominations with 10, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language, Best Actress for Karla Sofía Gascón, Best Supporting Actress for Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña, and Best Director for Audiard.

The genre-bending film follows lawyer Rita (Saldaña), who is hired by cartel leader Manitas (Gascón). Manitas is searching for help in withdrawing from the cartel and completing gender-affirming surgery, to begin a new and authentic life.

Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist follows close behind with seven nominations, receiving a nod for Best Motion Picture – Drama and acting nominations for stars Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, and Guy Pearce.

Another top contender, Edward Berger’s Conclave, starring Ralph Fiennes and Isabella Rossellini, scored six nominations. Other films that have received four or more nominations include Anora, Challengers, A Real Pain, Wicked, and The Substance.

Television’s Finest

Another year, another nomination lead for FX’s The Bear. The beloved show received five nominations in total, including Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and acting noms for Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Liza Cólon-Zayas.

Both Only Murders in the Building and Shogun earned four nominations each, including Best Series in their respective categories. Following with three nominations is Netflix rom-com Nobody Wants This, starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody.

More series with three nominations include Hacks, Baby Reindeer, True Detective: Night Country, and The Penguin, among others.

Strangely enough, the second season of Netflix’s Squid Game has received a nomination for Best Series – Drama when it’s still set to air near the end of this month. 

But with this, Netflix leads all distributors with a total of 26 nominations. In film, A24 follows with 12 nominations while in television, HBO/Max comes in second with 14 mentions.

Incredible Performers

Three actors have garnered double Golden Globe nominations for separate projects in different categories. Sebastian Stan has Best Actor nominations for both Musical/Comedy (A Different Man) and Drama (The Apprentice).

Meanwhile, Kate Winslet has nods for Best Actress for the biopic Lee as well as the HBO miniseries The Regime. Lastly, adding to Selena Gomez’s acting nomination for Emilia Pérez, she was also recognized for her role in the series Only Murders in the Building.

This year, there are 26 first-time Golden Globe nominees. Among them are already famous names like Ariana Grande, Dakota Fanning, Glen Powell, Jesse Plemons, Kathryn Hahn, Pamela Anderson, Seth Meyers, and Zoe Saldaña.

The 82nd annual Golden Globe Awards, hosted by Nikki Glaser, is set to air live from the Beverly Hilton on CBS and stream on Paramount+ on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET.
