Flabelus began in Spain as a serious reconsideration of the classic espadrille, a shoe that has existed in one form or another for centuries and was overdue for someone to treat it with genuine attention and a revamped flair. Each pair is built by hand using techniques passed down through generations of Spanish shoemakers. The result is rooted in that history, added on with modern colors that run saturated and intentional.
Sari Lazaro Studio works from a similar register. The Manila-based label from designer Sari Lazaro-Tiu has built its name on garments that disclose themselves gradually. “I’ve always believed that the pieces we reach for most are the ones that combine beauty, comfort, and craftsmanship,” Sari says.

The collaboration came together through Mabé Concepts, the local retail platform that introduced Flabelus to the Philippines and has been developing its presence here since the brand’s Manila debut. Bea Nazareno, Mabé’s Head of Creative and Brand, has been working toward a specific vision for the label. The Flabelus shoe can belong in the everyday wardrobe of the Filipino woman, worn on a regular Tuesday as much as to a dinner worth dressing for.
