Anthony Bourdain, the creative mind behind such food and travel programs like Parts Unknown and Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, was found dead in France this Friday from an apparent suicide. Bourdain was in Europe working on an upcoming episode for his award-winning CNN series “Parts Unknown.”
CNN has confirmed his death via statement on their Twitter account. It reads: “It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain. His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time.”
Bourdain first came to prominence after writing an editorial for the New Yorker entitled “Don’t Eat Before Reading This”. It would later become a best-selling book in 2000 called “Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly”. His new found fame allowed him to produce multiple hit television programs that made him an endeared figure in the culinary and cultural scene. Bourdain traveled the world, exploring the food and heritage of other countries, shedding light on various social issues along the way. In the fifth and seventh seasons of his No Reservation series, he visited the Philippines.
