Salonga played Erzulie, the goddess of love, in the 2017 Broadway revival of the one-act musical which was originally staged in 1990. The tale revolves around a fearless peasant girl in the French Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean Sea who brings residents from different social classes together through the power of love as she searches for her place in the world.

Apart from her Grammy nomination, Salonga was also the first Asian woman to win a Tony Award which the actress won from her Miss Saigon performance back in 1991.
