The pioneer in passenger safety is introducing highly rated models to the market.
Volvo has long been known as an automobile manufacturer that delivers style and innovation, and gives utmost importance to passengers. It has a history as a leader in passenger vehicle safety innovation that began in 1959: the company introduced the three-point safety belt, one of the most important pieces of safety equipment ever invented. Volvo gifted the revolutionary design to competitors to encourage mass adoption, and it has become a remarkable achievement that has saved millions of lives. Since then, the prominent Swedish manufacturer has introduced more world-firsts in safety, including the Rearward-facing child seat in 1972; Side Impact Protection System in 1991; Whiplash Protection System in 1998; Inflatable Curtain in 1998; Roll Stability Control in 2002; Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake in 2010; and Run-off Road Protection in 2014 among the list.
Today, Volvo is introducing yet another milestone in the name of passenger safety. Eleven of its new car models have earned five star ratings, the highest possible safety rating, from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s New Car Assessment Program for 2021.
“Volvo has always been and always will be about people, which means safety is our number one priority,” said Anders Gustafsson, Senior Vice President Americas and President and CEO, Volvo Car USA. “These NHTSA 5-star ratings confirm Volvo Cars’ continued commitment to protecting what’s important to our customers.”
