“The Anchorage” was built over a century ago, in 1917.
The house where Audrey Hepburn played Sabrina in the 1954 film of the same name is on the market for $11 million. Built in 1917 at Rye, New York, the manor known as “The Anchorage” was designed by architect Mott B. Schmidt, who is recognized for his American Georgian Classical style.

Its landscape design is the influential Ellen Biddlegiven, who was part of the first generation of women who impacted the male-dominated field of architecture.
The test of time
With more than 10 acres (including its riparian space), the property is the largest waterfront estate in Westchester County, including a private beach. The Anchorage features seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, dining rooms, a formal living room, and a library throughout its 9,437-square-foot layout.
Despite the home being built over a century ago, the classical design can still be found appealing today. Interior details such as oak and brick herringbone floors are paired with carved detailed moldings. There’s also a waterfront view, which can be appreciated through French doors.
While the property is up for bids, its new owners would own a piece of not only Hollywood legacy but that of design and architecture as well.
