The sequel to the similarly record-setting 2009 film Avatar achieved its feat in just over a month.

This is despite early doubts among the media and critics on the film’s success compared to its predecessor.

Just five weeks ago, Avatar: The Way of Water debuted at $435 million in worldwide receipts.

It has already surpassed Spider-Man: No Way Home as the sixth-highest-grossing film of all time.

Moreover, this marks director James Cameron’s third film to achieve at least $2 billion, after Avatar and Titanic.
