The legendary performer wrapped up his five-year tour in Stockholm.
Last Saturday night, Elton John performed the last show for the final tour of his career. “What a journey this tour has been and now we find ourselves at the end of it. Tonight is the final night,” the singer wrote in an Instagram post.
Wrapping up in Stockholm, Sweden, the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour began in 2018. It was originally supposed to end in 2021 but several tour dates were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

At his final UK stop, the veteran performer headlined the Glastonbury Festival. “The energy last night was like nothing else, and I couldn’t be more grateful to the crowd and the people watching at home for all your love and support,” he wrote in another Instagram post, thanking the fans at the festival. “You will be in my heart and soul forever. UK, what a farewell. I love you.”
The Final Farewell
Before playing his final song in Stockholm, John shared a few words of appreciation. “I’ve had the most wonderful career, beyond belief,” he told the crowd before launching into “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.”
“Fifty years of pure joy playing music. How lucky am I? But I wouldn’t be sitting here and talking to you if it wasn’t for you. You bought the singles, the CDs, the albums, the cassettes. More importantly, you bought the tickets to the shows. You know how much I love to play live. It’s been my lifeblood to play for you guys. You’ve been absolutely magnificent. Thank you.”
With 330 shows and more than six million attendees all over the world, John’s career finale is currently the highest-grossing tour of all time, earning over $800 million. The record was previously held by musicians such as Ed Sheeran, U2, and The Rolling Stones.
In his 2018 interview with Anderson Cooper, the singer said that it wasn’t a difficult decision to stop touring because he wanted to focus on his family. John has two sons with his husband David Furnish.
“That doesn’t mean I won’t still be creative,” he said. “But I won’t travel anymore … I don’t want to go out with a whimper. I want to go out with a bang … It’ll be the most produced, fantastic show I’ve ever done.”
