A Community Of Hope: Advocating The Art Of Kindness

It takes one veteran artist to see the potential in young artists. This foundation’s scholarships prove art and kindness go together.

Art is an expression and reflection—an expression of our inner thoughts, feelings, and experiences, and a reflection of society and culture. It helps us express ourselves and it influences how we relate to each other yet not all can appreciate budding talent.

IT TAKES ONE TO KNOW ONE

It takes one veteran artist to see the potential in young artists. Headed by the artist Juvenal Sansó himself, Fundacion Sansó strives to help individuals and groups by assisting artists and other creatives in the industry through different programs and scholarships. As the only private art institution that independently bestows grants, Fundacion Sansó’s advocacies and scholarships reveal to us that art goes beyond just gallery walls and that the spirit of generosity can be found inside many of us.

A CELEBRATION OF ART AND GRATITUDE

The art museum Fundacion Sansó was filled with joy and laughter with the accompaniment of good company, good food, and good wine. On this one evening, artists and people who love Sansó gathered to celebrate the success of the foundation’s programs, entitled “A Community of Hope,” through a thanksgiving dinner for partners and benefactors.

Attendees were treated to wines and a charcuterie table from Apéritif for starters, as they got the chance to see the museum’s latest selections from the Cuevas and Gonzalez collection entitled Sansó: Prized and Personal. It is an exhibition series meant to give insights into the aspect of Sansó’s art and how these resonate with the individuals and families who have made it their mission to create their own Sansó collections.

The guests were serenaded by tenor Ivan Nery and soprano Shiela Ferrer with some of the world’s most loved songs from both Broadway to classical Filipino music. After the performance, the guests were ushered to their respective tables for dinner.

The thanksgiving dinner, hosted by Tedrick Yau, was followed by speeches from some of the foundation’s board members, including the managing director of the museum, Ricky Francisco. “We are very sensitive to the context we offer our help to,” Francisco shared, noting that the altruistic work will continue. “And so, whatever they need, we will always try to meet them halfway,” he added.

The guests feasted on some sopa de ajo blanco, green garden salad, mahi-mahi and cauliflower steak, and for dessert: maja blanca, all from Cafe Sansó. In the same event, previous awardees and scholars of Fundacion Sansó’s curatorial grants and stipend funds shared their art journeys during and after their mentorship. The partners and benefactors also did not go home empty-handed, as a raffle draw punctuated the event, with some artworks from the museum and an etching made by Sansó as the grand prize. Nery and Ferrer returned to cap off a stellar evening celebrating art, generosity, and kindness.
