A culmination of the city’s heritage and culture will be showcased through clothes from household Filipino designers.
Bright lights, flashing cameras, and outstanding clothes are scenes during runway shows. Fashion shows are often held in Paris, Milan, and New York, but this year, the glamorous catwalk will be built in the country’s capital city—Manila. “Rampa Manila,” the first fashion show in the city will happen on June 20, 2023.
The runway show will feature different iconic local designers who are household names, such as Albert Andrada, Michael Leyva, Marlon Tuazon, Puey Quinones, and Jo Rubio, to name a few. Another local designer that will be featuring their work is John Jade Montecalvo, a designer who creates jaw-dropping clothes out of weaved fabric scraps. The designers are tasked with creating their interpretation of a modern Filipiniana.

Celebratory Walk
The event is part of the month-long celebration of Manila City’s 452nd founding anniversary. In an interview, Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan said, “We would like Manila to reclaim its place in Philippine fashion and culture, promote our local artists and the shops on Divisoria that play a big role in the textile trade. Manila offers a wide variety of inspiration and sources of materials.”
The fashion show is a way for the city to showcase the heritage and culture of Manila. “We are excited to see the creative vision of our designers come to life on the runway. Rampa Manila is not just a fashion show, but a celebration of our city’s vibrant culture and heritage. We invite everyone to come and experience the beauty and artistry of Philippine fashion,” said City Tourism head Charlie Dungo.
