Angelina Jolie will officially vacate the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR). This comes after the Academy Award-winning actress served as special envoy for over 20 years.

She clarified, however, that she will remain a humanitarian activist dedicated to helping refugees outside of the body.

“After 20 years working within the UN system, I feel it is time for me to work differently. Engaging directly with refugees and local organizations, and supporting their advocacy for solutions,” Jolie said in a statement.

Previously, the former UNHCR representative participated in over 60 field assignments during her time with the agency.

The UNHCR is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights, and building a better future for refugees, forcibly displaced communities, and stateless people.

“I will continue to do everything in my power in the years to come to support refugees and other displaced people,” Jolie concluded.
