How would you describe your mom?
Cake artist Mannix described his mom, Rosa, as committed to her duties as a mom and a wife. “My mom taught the importance of duties and responsibilities,” he said. “She loves to try new things, play with gadgets and computers, and is an amazing chef. She is philanthropic, strong, and talented.”
Dennis, Authenticite Manila founder, said his mom, Terry, is a kind and sincere person. “She finds joy in helping those in need. As a parent, she shows thoughtfulness and generosity by sending fruits I enjoy regularly.”
Miko regarded his mom, Pinky, as one of his strongest influences in life, especially in architecture. “I followed her footsteps and became an architect, too,” he mused. “Her career allowed me many opportunities and paved a clear path for me to follow.”
Fashion designer JC related his mom in a quote: “A mother is a person who sees there are only four pieces of pie for five people, but announces she never did care for pie.” This shows a mom’s willingness to sacrifice for her children.
Rajo, also a fashion designer, detailed that his mom is a strong woman with a heart of gold. “She can be tough at times but tender and has a lovely sense of humor. Above all, she is unconditional love personified.”
Gary, a restaurateur and a corporate professional, said his mom is selfless, loving, and affectionate. “The moment I see her, she always gives me this big smile. Everything is about us, not her. Her happiness encompasses her faith in God and love for her children.”
What are you gifting your mom this Mother’s Day?
Mannix said he gave his mom bags and other items for every occasion but Rosa does not believe in excessiveness. “For Mother’s Day, I [will] give her flowers and bake her favorite buttercream mocha cake.” His mom trusts his taste so she loves his gifts, but his loving gestures make her feel just as appreciated.
Dennis bought Terry a Hermes Kelly bag for her birthday and as a Mother’s Day gift in the color she doesn’t have yet: fuchsia pink. She finds meaning in these gifts because they came from him.
JC will gift his mom an overseas trip for her birthday and Mother’s Day. “We will celebrate in Fukuoka,” he said. “A favorite item of hers that I gave is her iPhone as it keeps her entertained.”
Like Miko and JC, Rajo plans to take his mom on a trip with his siblings. “I love gifts that create core memories,” he said. “We’re going on a European cruise this summer.” He added that the most meaningful present he gave his mom was their travels with the family with no partners or grandchildren. “We started after the pandemic and I would really love to make it a continuous activity. These trips were very special.”
Miko will also travel with mom Pinky for Mother’s Day. “We are going on a trip with her to Sri Lanka, which is my wife and I’s favorite destination. I go there to find architectural inspirations and I would love to share this experience with my mom.” He then said his mom’s favorite gift is a letter he wrote her when he was young. “Maybe she kept it because children’s words and thoughts are authentic,” he added.
Gary kept his Mother’s Day gifts to Sylvia simple through flowers, chocolates, and macaroons. “No gift will be complete without a personally-made card, expressing how much we love and appreciate her.”
Any message for your mom?
Mannix said that admittedly, their family never expresses mushy stuff, but his mom taught them that actions speak louder than words. “I hope my actions have shown you how much you mean to me,” he said. “Happy Mother’s Day to the strongest and elegant woman I know, I love you mom.”
Dennis kept his message short yet thoughtful. “Always have regular check ups with your doctors so you can enjoy trips with your grandkids in the years to come.”
Miko expressed that their family was lucky to have Pinky as their “Mamsie.” “Thank you for all you’ve done, all you continue to do, and extending your blessings to your grandchildren.”
Rajo spoke about how he honors his mom every day. “Thank you for showing us how to be correct, righteous, kind, and God-fearing. We are grateful for all the sacrifices you made for us. I feel so blessed everyday that God chose you to be our mom. I love you very much!”
“Thank you for tirelessly taking care of your 200-pound baby, I love you,” was JC’s brief yet sweet words dedicated to his mom, Corazon.
Gary conveyed his mom has always been and still is the perfect mother for him. “I love you dearly. Words cannot express how grateful I am to you for caring, supporting, disciplining, and loving me all these years to make me the man I am now.”
