The Manila Symphony Orchestra journeys to its centennial celebration of musical excellence with a spectacular all-Beethoven program on October 5 in Aliw Theater at 7.30 P.M.
The Manila Symphony Orchestra (MSO) shares that they will be performing “beloved and hidden gems of Beethoven’s repertoire, offering music enthusiasts a fresh and exciting listening experience.”
In a press release they also said, “As part of its prestigious concert series, In Pursuit of Excellence 2024-2025, the MSO will regale the audience with three works of Ludwig Beethoven that are unique and rarely performed.”
Overture to King Stephen will open the concert, which was originally written as a play wherein Beethoven created both the vocal and musical instrumentation of this unsung jewel, showcasing the artist’s dramatic flair and compositional brilliance. Leading the MSO in this musical play of Beethoven masterpieces is Russian conductor Alexander Vikulov, who has performed with the MSO on various occasions.
Highly acclaimed solo pianist Mariel Ilusurio joins the MSO, performing Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor, considered one of Beethoven’s magnificent works, showcasing his genius in both virtuosity and innovation. It was first performed in 1803 where Beethoven debuted the masterpiece as soloist. A performance of Symphony No. 4 in B-flat major awaits, which was debuted in 1807 with Royalty as his guests, exemplifying Beethoven’s mastery of form, merging lively rhythms and delicate lyricism. The audience looks forward to an extraordinary evening of Beethoven through the Manila Symphony Orchestra’s pursuit of excellence as it continues its journey to 100 years.
