The Olivier Award-winning production is set to grace the Manila stage this May 2026, and features a cast of talented performers, including Filipina actress and singer Gab Pangilinan as Mary Magdalene. 

Fans both new and old are waiting in anticipation for Jesus Christ Superstar to finally grace the Manila stage from May 2 to 31, 2026 at The Theatre at Solaire, as part of a major international tour for Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s beloved Olivier Award-winning piece. In the meantime, more exciting information has been released about the upcoming production, namely its principal casting.

The Cast Of Jesus Christ Superstar 

The principal cast members for the Manila run hail from previous UK, North America, and Australian tours in their production. They include Luke Street as Jesus, Javon King as Judas, Ethan Hardy Benson as Pilate, Grant Hodges as Caiaphas, and Kodiak Thompson as Annas.

Joining them is the Philippines’ very own Gab Pangilinan, the Manila-based actress and singer taking on the role of Mary Magdalene. The Filipina stage and screen actress has received multiple awards for her past work, best known for her performances in The Last Five Years, Side Show, Ang Huling El Bimbo The Musical, and Mula Sa Buwan

Pangilinan stands as a three-time Philstage Gawad Buhay nominee for Pingkian: Isang Musikal (2024), The Last Five Years (2023), and Mula Sa Buwan (2022); and won Best Leading Female Performance (Digital) at the 27th Asian Television Awards for Still: A Musical Narrative Series. She has collaborated with some of the country’s leading theater companies like PETA, Tanghalang Pilipino, Atlantis Theatrical, and Full House Theater Company. She also recently appeared in productions of We Aren’t Kids Anymore and Othello.

While Jesus Christ Superstar’s initial run was set for May 2 to 24, it has since been extended to May 31, giving Filipino audiences ample time to see the globally celebrated production.

“We are incredibly happy to have Gab Pangilinan in the international company of Jesus Christ Superstar,” shares Carlos Candal, CEO of GMG Productions, in a statement. “Gab is a respected and accomplished artist, and her casting as Mary Magdalene highlights the strength of Filipino theater talent.”

There’s much to look forward to, as this particular production of Jesus Christ Superstar won the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival and the 2016 Evening Standard Award for Best Musical, selling out two consecutive engagements in 2016 and 2017. The production played a West End engagement at the Barbican in 2019 before returning to Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre with a concert version during the summer of 2020, followed by a widely acclaimed UK tour in 2023 to 2024.

New and final “Jesus Christ Superstar” show dates have been released and are now available exclusively through TicketWorld. The musical runs at The Theatre at Solaire from May 2 to 31, 2026, with no further extensions possible.
