The Intramuros Administration, together with the Cultural Center of the Philippines, is reviving its storied “Intramuros Evenings” with a bold theatrical work that draws inspiration from the works of National Artists Eddie Romero, F. Sionil Jose, and Alejandro Roces.
This July 2025, the Intramuros Administration and Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) are bringing back Intramuros Evenings in celebration of the administration’s 46th anniversary, opening it with the staging of Ganito Na Kami Noon, Paano Na Ngayon? —a bold theatrical work from the CCP Out-of-The-Box Series that runs on July 19, 2025, 630 PM at Centro de Turismo, Intramuros, Manila. The event is free and open to the public, with seating on a first-come, first-served basis.

As part of its stewardship, preservation, and vibrant promotion of the country’s famous walled city, the administration first held its Intramuros Evenings in 1996, working with the CCP to champion the enduring legacy of Philippine arts and culture. The two institutions share a longstanding partnership, with past editions of the program having featured CCP resident companies including the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO), Ballet Philippines, and Tanghalang Pilipino.

About Ganito Na Kami Noon, Paano Na Ngayon?
Written by Jose Victor Torres and directed by CCP artistic director Dennis Marasigan, the devised theater piece draws inspiration from the works of three National Artists: Alejandro Roces (namely his short story “We the Filipinos Are Mild Drinkers”), F. Sionil Jose (his 1984 novel Po-on), and Eddie Romero (the filmmaker behind the play’s eponymous 1976 drama).
The story is set in the 1950s and follows Kulas—an aging farmer detained on suspicion of leading the Hukbalahap [a Communist-led guerrilla movement that fought against the Japanese in World War II] who finds himself entangled in questions of identity, memory, and change.

“Ganito Na Kami Noon, Paano Na Ngayon? is an appropriate opening for the revival of “Intramuros Evenings” as it looks back at history to provide insight into our past,” shares Marasigan.
Ganito Na Kami Noon, Paano Na Ngayon? features the Tanghalang Pilipino Actors Company, with stellar performances by Arjhay Babon, Jonathan Tadioan, Marco Viaña, Mark Lorenz, Sarah Monay, Lhorvie Nuevo-Tadioan, Anya Evangelista, and Rey Correjado.
Ohm David takes charge of the set design, with Meliton Roxas Jr. for lighting, TJ Ramos for sound, Winter David for video graphics, Daniel Gregorio for costumes, and Rommel Serrano for overall styling.
