Here are the Coronation’s best-dressed, dressed-down guests worth noting.
As King Charles III claimed the crown on May 6, 2023, millions of people watched the prince become king. The coronation was not short of grandiosity-guests from around the world came in their best outfits. The daytime event was the paramount epitome of grandeur, with guests parading their brightly colored outfits, and many memorable and iconic fashion moments happened in the coronation.
Though the coronation produced fashion moments, the king encouraged his guests to dress down. Dressing down for the coronation breaks traditions. Royal coronations usually center around opulence. The decision to dress down leans on the idea that the new head of the monarch wants to modernize the meaning of the crown.
Amidst the announcement, guests still arrived in their best “dressed-down-outfits.” Here are the best-dressed guests who dressed down but are still dressed up for a coronation.
The American pop star who performed in the concert after the coronation wore a vibrant lilac Vivienne Westwood ensemble and hat paired with an opulent pearl necklace in the coronation.
The wife of Britain’s Prime Minister wore a floral embroidered baby blue dress with puff shoulders from Claire Mischevani, a Shrewsbury-based British brand.
Another attendee who wore Michevani, Pippa Middleton, the younger sister of Kate Middleton, wore a class pastel yellow coat dress. The outfit exemplifies the plea for dressing down but, at the same time, being on brand and theme with the coronation.
Surprisingly, the Oscar-winning actress wore a red Emilia Wickstead rose-printed long coat paired with a silver clutch and arguably a fun pair of Roger Vivier heels. Thompson’s outfit brought out a fun and bold side to the coronation.
