Fancy owning an entire French village? If you have $55 million to spare, you can buy one owned by Johnny Depp.
The Pirates of the Caribbean lead has been trying to sell his Plan-de-La-Tour, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur property since 2015, after getting married to Amber Heard. Then, he listed it for just over $25 million, but bumped it up more than 100 percent the next year to $65 million. No buyers went for it.
Depp owns many properties around the world, including a villa in a Parisian suburb or Meudon. But this village about 17 miles north of Saint Tropez has somewhat of deeper hold on the actor.
The celebrity purchased the property in 2001 while he was still in a relationship with French singer, model, and actress Vanessa Paradis. Over the 14 years they were together, they would spend a lot of time there with their two children Lily-Rose and Jack.
And why wouldn’t they? Just from the photos, anyone can see that just about anyone—especially world-weary movie stars—can enjoy a quiet, provincial life here without wanting for more.
All in one
The hamlet has a total living space of more than 10,000 square feet, with some estimates placing it from 12,000 to 14,000. It has 15 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms, including five and 3.5, respectively, in the 4,300-square-foot main house.
Among the structures and amenities there—the interiors of which Depp apparently designed himself—are two swimming pools, an art studio, and a town square for outdoor dining. Guests can stay at any of the cottages, or, at a covered wagon (complete with bathroom), or deconsecrated church with a confessional converted into a cabinet.
Surrounded by 300-year-old oaks, olive trees and vineyards, the village also has its own bistro, which Depp dubbed as Café Marcheline, a wine cellar, and a skate park. The actor reportedly spent more than $10 million to upgrade the little French town.
