Collecting Gold: Carlos Yulo Bags Another Olympic Medal For The Philippines

Carlos Yulo couldn’t stop making history as he gave the Philippines its second gold Olympic medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics. 

After making history as the first Filipino and Southeast Asian to win a gold medal in the Paris 2024 Olympics, Carlos Yulo, once again, clinches another gold. Yulo achieved this feat by garnering an overall score of 15.116 during the Men’s Vault Finals. Moreover, he achieved this by earning a score of 15.433 for the first vault and 14.800 for the second vault.

He stayed ahead of his competitors with a Difficulty Value (DV) 6-routine for his first vault and a DV 5.6 for his second routine. Furthermore, he scored a 9.433 and a 9.200 in execution for his vault routines respectively.

Breaking Boundaries 

As he clinched his second gold medal he is proving to everyone that with enough support and training Filipino athletes can reach great heights. Gymnastics is not a popular mainstream sport in the Philippines. However, he’s showing the potential Filipinos can unlock if they venture into other sports. With every leap and stride, Yulo consistently proves that Filipinos can unlock greatness.

Aside from Yulo, two Filipino athletes in the Paris 2024 Olympics are also up for medal contention. Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas are Filipino boxers who have successfully entered the women’s boxing semifinals of their respective weight divisions. Petecio and Villegas are said to be assured of at least a bronze medal with their recent triumphs.

Filipinos in the Paris Olympics excelling in gymnastics and boxing are sending a strong message. A man winning gold medals in gymnastics and women excelling in boxing. Aside from records, gender norms are also being broken. The success of these athletes paves the way for more Filipino athletes in different sports to be more appreciated and supported.
