Decades-old rivals Paul McCartney and The Rolling Stones collaborate

A spokesperson has denied that the collaboration includes Ringo Starr.

According to CNN, it is a rivalry that has rumbled on for more than half a century, but now Paul McCartney has finally agreed to let it be by collaborating with The Rolling Stones on their new album.

The report says that in an email to CNN Wednesday, a representative for the Rolling Stones confirmed that McCartney, 80, plays bass “on just one RS track.”

The same article shares: Denying press reports that the collaboration also includes the Beatles’ other surviving member, the spokesman said the recording featured “no Ringo Starr at all.” No further details are available about the album, which will be the first since the Stones’ drummer, Charlie Watts, died in 2021.

The story elaborates on the history of the two rival bands: “In the 1960s, the Beatles and the Stones were two of the most famous groups in the world. While the Rolling Stones are still touring six decades later, the Beatles split up in 1970. John Lennon was killed in 1980 and George Harrison died in 2001.”

In a related article, Rolling Stone writes: “A source with knowledge of the sessions confirmed McCartney’s involvement in the project, saying he contributed bass to one new Rolling Stones song. The collaboration was first reported by Variety. However, the source denied the initial report’s claim that Beatles drummer Ringo Starr also participated in the sessions. A rep for McCartney declined to comment.”

The article also reports that “the Stones have reportedly spent the past several weeks recording new music in Los Angeles with producer Andrew Watt (Post Malone, Ozzy Osbourne, Miley Cyrus, among many others), and the project is nearing the mixing phase. No other details have been shared, including when this music might see the light of day.”

Meanwhile, Reuters enlightens readers with its report that “the Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney have joined forces to record a song together for the rock band’s upcoming new album, a spokesperson for the Stones said on Wednesday.

The same report shares that in a video message on his social media pages last month, Stones guitarist Keith Richards told fans “there’s some new music on its way”. This will be the first new album since the 2021 death of the Rolling Stones’ drummer Charlie Watts.
