Dennis Lustico, Chito Vijandre, Ricky Toledo, and Joey Samson, mentors from Ternocon 3’s terno and barong collections, sparked Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo S/S 2024 with their pieces under the banner of “Bench Presents Ternocon.”
Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo S/S 2024 saw the captivating and classic terno pieces from Ternocon mentors and esteemed Filipino designers Dennis Lustico, Chito Vijandre, Ricky Toledo, and Joey Samson during the “Bench Presents Ternocon” at Fashion Week. This was a stunning display of Filipino artistry and design at the function held at Shibuya Hikarie Hall A.
Each designer’s collection exhibited how they personally interpreted the balintawak, the rural variation of the Philippine terno, by fusing contemporary design aspects with folkloric Filipino themes.

TROPICAL INFLUENCE
The first works exhibited to the captivated audience were Lustico’s creations. The opening wowed the fashion industry figures as well as a standing room only audience of young fashionistas. During one of his travels to several provinces, Lustico came across a group of coconut palms, which he used as inspiration for one of his ternos. Additionally, Lustico displayed women’s barongs that featured the pauelo (fichu). Lustico also included jewelry designs by Arnel Papa and Adante Layesa on the runway.
HEROIC INSPIRATION
Joey Samson’s touching collection, which was motivated by Philippine National Hero Jose Rizal’s writings, was presented after Lustico finished his awesome run. Samson displayed his clever blending of components from both traditional menswear and womenswear, including pauelo, alampay, tapis, enaguas, and other items such as barong, camisa, and Western suits.
