The New York Flower School graduate transformed her lockdown restlessness to a beacon of hope in 2020.
As a florist, Nina Rose Garcia’s days typically begin at the crack of dawn—when she finds most clarity and peace. “The inspiration begins with a gentle stirring within while keenly observing my surroundings,” the founder of Majorelle Floral Design tells Lifestyle Asia. “Slowly, the rest of my day unfolds, and I stay open and curious about the unknown, to the little surprises an ordinary day can offer, influencing my creative space.”
She began her venture in September 2020, the height of the COVID pandemic. While the world was under various quarantine restrictions, she was admittedly restless. “So I decided to put my skills to use. I was somehow inspired to transform fear and uncertainty into a positive and productive endeavor that gave me joy. One I could share with others as well,” the graduate of the programs Floral Design and Floristry skills and Flower Shop management at the Flower School, New York, recalls.
Finding serenity
Garcia’s drive to create unique arrangements stems from honoring nature, “from the tiniest spaces to the most theatrical portions of our homes. Flowers can heal and soothe in the bleakest of times, leading one to find serenity and gratitude.”
Majorelle Floral Design predominantly uses flowers sourced from the Netherlands, where 1.7 billion are produced annually. According to Holland’s official tourism website, different flower varieties flourish in the area due to the ideal soil acidity, climate, sea air, and sand.
When creating an arrangement, Garcia keeps her client’s preferences in mind. For the florist, it’s an enjoyable experience to discuss what each customer wants, as it reveals the giver’s and recipient’s personalities and styles. “I witness generosity in each order as the details, color, theme, and specifications are relayed to me,” Garcia shares. “I am grateful not only for their trust and confidence but also for seeing how the giver desires to make another human being happy with a gift from Majorelle.”
