Finca El Origen: An Argentinean Wine Dinner

By

Guests enjoyed a five-course dinner with a fine selection of Argentinian wines as a beloved Makati hotel re-opens.

Makati Shangri-la has re-opened and so has Sage Grill. The grill has a new Chef de Cuisine, Pablo Ramirez, who is also from Argentina and prepared a five-course dinner to pair with Finca El Origen Argentinean wines.

The wine pairing dinner called “Terroir Treasures – Journey with Finca El Origen Wines” started with three types of canapés smartly served from a half globe that read “Argentina”.   These included a crab ball with wasabi, cassava charcoal, and an amandine tartlet with artichoke marzipan paired with a refreshing Varietal Malbec Rosé 2021. The cold appetizer was Hokkaido scallops with Granny Smith apples and daikon (radish) served with a Reserva Torrontés 2022. The hot appetizer was lobster tortellini, bisque, home-cured lemon served with a wonderful Premium Andes Blend 2020.

Finca El Origen Winemaker Lucas Montivero flew in for the occasion and explained the wines to diners.

The main course was an Australian marbled cut of Shimo Artful striploin served with burnt eggplant and melba toast wonderfully paired with a Gran Reserva Malbec 2019.

The night ended on a sweet note with an Eton mess made with strawberry and bergamot confit, custard cream, vanilla cream and fresh strawberries paired with the same wine from the main course.

It was truly a delightful dinner and we hope more of these will happen now that Makati’s beloved hotel has re-opened after its closure during the pandemic.

Finca El Origen Wines are distributed by the Aboitiz Wine Company. Sage Grill is located at the Makati Shangri-la, Ayala Avenue corner Makati Avenue, Makati City.
