The Upper Crust: Pizzas We Can’t Stop Thinking About This Summer

By

However they’re shaped or sliced, these pizzas hailing from different Manila dining spots are our summer obsessions.

Whether it’s an uber-cheesy New York–style slice or a decadent Detroit deep-dish square, pizza is always a good idea. We’ve rounded up five of our current go-to pizzerias in Manila to keep your summer hot and melty.

Crosta Pizzeria

The long queues outside the Salcedo branch of Crosta Pizzeria can test anyone’s patience, yet they speak volumes about how beloved their signature pies have become. The wait may be a hassle, but it’s undeniably worth it (our mouths always water thinking about their cheesy Detroit-style pizza). Founded by husband-and-wife team Ingga Cabagnon Chua and Thomas Woudwyk, Crosta was built from the ground up. Ingga herself once handled everything from dough production to marketing. The passion project has since grown into one of the most sought-after spots in the Metro, with Yuichi Abellare Ito, one of Japan’s top pizzaioli, as its head chef. While the group has launched a new branch in San Juan, the iconic Makati flagship continues to grow, with an expansion set to open just across its original space.

A mano

Awarded a coveted place in the prestigious 2025 edition of the 50 Top Pizza Awards (ranking 49th worldwide), A Mano has firmly established itself as a must-visit destination for exceptional, handmade Italian cuisine in the Philippines. True to any great Italian table, pizza lies at its heart—and it’s nothing short of superb. “A Mano,” meaning “by hand,” speaks to the restaurant’s philosophy: a devotion to craft evident in its beautifully blistered Neapolitan-style pies, made with the finest ingredients and the uncompromising quality the Fores family has long been known for. Done with your slices? Don’t miss out on dessert! The restaurant’s ultra-delicious Burrata Gelato Soft Serve is the perfect chaser to a savory pizza pie.

A mano has locations in BGC, Powerplant Mall, Shangri-La Plaza Mall, and Gateway

EAPPOC Pizza

Easy as Pie, Piece of Cake Pizza, or simply known as EAPPOC Pizza, comes from the same culinary minds behind Booya Bagels. And if you’ve had their bagels, then you already know: they take their dough very seriously. Though EAPPOC has earned a devoted cult following online, it still feels like a hidden gem compared to the city’s more headline-grabbing pizza spots. Frankly, it deserves far louder applause. Their Detroit-style pies are unapologetically indulgent: thick, airy slabs with crisp, caramelized edges, generously portioned and packed with flavor in every square. This is weekend pizza, the kind you order with zero restraint, eaten straight from the box while you’re sprawled on the couch with a great film playing in the background. Calories? That’s Monday’s problem.

You can currently order EAPPOC Pizza on Grab. They also have a pop-up currently at the BGC branch of Booya Bagels.

Mangiamo Ristorante

Hidden on the second floor of an office building in Makati, dining at Mangiamo Ristorante feels like stumbling upon a true hidden gem—complete with an Italian chef at the helm. Its expansive menu offers thoughtfully executed renditions of classic Italian fare, but it’s the pizza that truly commands attention. The crust is soft and handmade, the cheese lush and balanced, and the toppings refreshingly restrained, allowing each ingredient to shine exactly as it should. It’s a restaurant well worth seeking out. And side note for the lactose-intolerant: Mangiamo has you covered! We’re especially fond of their cheese-less Marinara Pizza, an explosion of flavor built on vibrant tomato sauce, generous slices of garlic, and briny anchovies that bring depth to every bite.

Mangiamo Ristorante is located at the 2nd floor, 88 Corporate Center, 141 Valero St., cor Sedeño, Makati City

Carlo’s

If you’re craving the perfect New York–style slice in the Philippines, head straight to Carlo’s. Located in Bonifacio Global City, the restaurant serves thin-crust, hand-rolled pies that are unabashedly flavorful, all within a hip, youthful space designed for socializing and savoring—exactly as pizza should be enjoyed. The runaway favorite? Their signature Spicy Vodka Pizza, which has won the hearts (and very hungry stomachs) of countless Filipinos. The pie is lavished with pesto, mozzarella, Parmigiano Reggiano, and a fiery vodka sauce that delivers a satisfying kick. While pizzas may be the main event at Carlo’s, don’t hesitate to round out your order with a couple more dishes (if you want to call them “sides,” we won’t judge). The calamari, fried to golden perfection, is a crowd-pleaser, and the pasta dishes are comforting and worth every last calorie.
