The 74th Emmy Awards will broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater on September 12, airing on NBC and Peacock.

Although the Television Academy didn’t acknowledge which network or platform leads the list, the HBO-HBO Max tandem led with 140 collective nominations.

Netflix followed with 105 nominations that still trail behind HBO, which alone received 108 nods.

Internal competition

HBO’s Succession, a series about a family dynasty, fittingly came first as the most-nominated program this year with 25 nods. Much of its main cast gained successive nominations, including in the same acting categories.

Fictional father-son duo Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong again compete for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series. Their co-stars Nicholas Braun, Kieran Culkin, and Matthew Macfadyen, moreover, are all in the Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series category.

J. Smith-Cameron and Sarah Snook also duke it out in the Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series. Additionally, seven of the show’s guest actors and actresses received recognition in their respective categories.

Cassie school of acting

This year’s breakout star, however, is clearly Sydney Sweeney.

Among this year’s 50 first-time performer nominees, Sweeney received two nods.

These are Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series for Euphoria and Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie for The White Lotus.

Green light

Meanwhile, Netflix’s Squid Game plays by its own rules.

The K-drama became the first non-English language show to receive a nod from the Television academy.

It scored 14 nods in total in the Drama division, including Lee Jung-jae for Lead Actor, Jung Ho-yeon for Supporting Actress, Park Hae-soo and Oh Yeong-su for Supporting Actor, and Lee You-mi for Guest Actress.
