Is Donald Trump's Name Being Removed From NY City Buildings?

A recent internet video showed Trump’s name being removed from an apartment building in New York City.

There has been a video circulating on the internet regarding the removal of Donald Trump’s name from an apartment building in New York City.

The clip is posted on the social media platform Tiktok and has gained more than 1.5 million views. It has also been posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The video shows two men on top of a cherry picker taking down the surname of former president Trump from the side of the complex.

Days before this clip emerged, a judge ruled that Trump had fraudulently inflated the value of his properties and assets for years in order to gain financial perks.

Judge Arthur Engoron is overseeing New York Attorney General Letitia James’ $250 million lawsuit against the former president.

He also ruled that the business certificates for companies owned by Trump will be canceled.

This may result in the former president’s companies being removed from his control and dissolved.

Out-Of-Date

However, despite the clip receiving mixed emotions and comments from viewers, the video is not recent.

This clip was in November 2016, just days after Trump won the election.

They removed the Trump name from three apartment buildings in that month in the city that overwhelmingly voted for the Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton.

The Trump Organization did not own the three apartment buildings in question for around a decade before changing their names and removing the signs.

The Trump Organization is Trump’s real estate company, which he is also at risk of losing because of Engoron’s recent ruling.

A group of residents petitioned to have the “Trump Place” name removed from the apartment complexes.

They expressed their outrage at the Republicans during his 2016 presidential campaign.

“We felt we had to do something, so this was a small protest,” resident Linda Gottleib told ABC News at the time.

Aaron Bollman, one of the longtime residents of the building told CNN in 2016 that “This sign never really meant anything to me from the day I signed my lease, obviously it has a different meaning to me now.”

“I was really hoping that he would lose…would just go away. But that is not the case,” Bollman added.

They removed the “Trump Place” name from the other towers in New York in 2018 and 2019.

When accusing Trump of inciting the January 6 attack, they also put plans in place to change the name and remove associations with Trump from buildings and apartment complexes

What’s Brand New?

Last month, sources told ABC News that Trump’s name is coming off of a golf course in the Bronx.

Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point has been the subject of a legal battle with the City of New York. This is following the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Now, Bally’s is buying Trump out of his lease with the city.

According to the New York City Parks Department, “We are supportive of the transfer of the Ferry Point Golf Course to Bally’s.”

They also added, “And we are confident they will deliver a high-quality golfing experience to New Yorkers.”

Bally’s plans to continue operating Ferry Point as a golf course but needs to rename it.
