Honing the talent and craft

Some may think art is only meant to be seen. Yet it does more than that: it is meant to inspire and to engage audiences and oftentimes, to be reproduced. For aspiring visual artists, you can heighten your skills to creating meaningful art through learning only from the best and respected in the industry. Art Fair Philippines makes this possible by complementing its ArtFairPH/Talks with Open Studios. This series of workshops range from photography, lighting techniques, woodcraft, sculpture-making, to watercolor painting. Expect to learn tips and interesting methods from Paco Guerrero, Mark Nicdao, Benji Reyes, and Rita Gudiño of Tahanan Pottery.

Immersing in moving images

Visual art is not only about still-life images and installations. Art Fair has created a space for enthusiasts of movies with its Film section. Directors Erwin Romulo and Teddy Co with film critic Philbert Dy celebrate the diversity of Philippine cinema in this section of the fair. From award-winning feature-length and short films to documentary and animation, expect to immerse yourself in a pool of creative expression of ideas, symbols, and realities. Whether you are a fan of local decade films or contemporary ones, you will certainly take away something meaningful from the film-screenings.

Going beyond mainstream

Art Fair takes the world of fascinating art beyond the gallery this year. They mount Incubators or creative spaces outside the main exhibitions. These are much more immersive in nature as you can engage in a beehive-like environment of Issay Rodriguez. The artist has a unique art production style that titillates different senses. The works seemingly resemble this hyperactive, digital age. Giatay, Project 20, and Signum will exhibit different works as well.

Art Fair would not be complete without featuring a roster of visual artists. Expect to see works from Rodel Tapaya, Carlo Villafuerte, Perry Argel, Jaime De Guzman, Gene Paul Martin, and Neil Pasilan. Italian Ambassador to the Philippines Giorgio Guglielmino will also present The Originals, his book on 30 artists making waves in the industry.

All these new thrilling exhibitions will satisfy art enthusiasts. No matter the form they prefer or which skill they want to learn, there is space to satisfy the thirst for creative expression.

Art Fair Philippines opens from 10 AM to 9 PM on February 21-23, 2020.
