Young photographer and Lifestyle Asia contributor Hub Pacheco’s passion project comes to fruition in WALKTHROUGH, a photography exhibit featuring alleyways from around the world. This marks Pacheco’s first solo exhibition, and will open this Saturday, October 6, 2018, from 7-9PM at the Gallery, ASpace Greenbelt in Makati.
WALKTHROUGH will showcase 20 distinct alleyways photographed by Pacheco between 2014 to the present day. He started the series unknowingly, when he wandered through the streets of Taipei one night, almost four years ago. After noticing the quiet side streets of the city, the young artist was fascinated by the beauty of the “often-ignored alleyways”, and decided to seek more out on succeeding trips. Pacheco hopes to encourage travelers to explore these charming hidden gems, rather than sticking to atypical tourist destinations. His series will “explore the evolution of alleyways in urban spaces, from the rough and undeveloped to the sprawling and commercially viable.”

Pacheco told Lifestyle Asia that he spent months prepping the show, carefully curating the photographs and exhibit flow to tell a story. “While travelling, we almost always ignore sketchy-looking alleyways and head straight to the big main streets. I want to change that mindset. Photography allows me the license to be curious and I want to show that there are countless stories and details to be discovered and experience in alleyways that we just pass by,” Pacheco shared.
The exhibition will feature alleyways from Vietnam, Japan, France, and Morocco, amongst others. The show will be open for one night only, with all pieces available for purchase during the event. Pacheco’s Alleyway Series has already garnered international attention. In 2016, London’s The Guardian (October 2016 issue for both print and digital) featured the photographer’s journey while he was shooting in Vietnam.
