Want to know which luxury brands belong to bigger fashion families? Lifestyle Asia explores five surprising acquisitions you may not be aware of.
While many are familiar with LVMH and Kering for their ownership of fashion giants like Louis Vuitton and Gucci, there are several lesser-known luxury labels that fall under a different fashion umbrella.
Versace
Versace became part of the fashion conglomerate Michael Kors when it was acquired for $2.1 billion in 2018, as reported by BBC.
The luxury group, later renamed Capri Holdings, had already acquired Jimmy Choo the year before.
Kate Spade
Coach, Inc., a New York-based company, acquired Kate Spade, renowned for its whimsical handbags, for $2.4 billion in 2017, according to Forbes.
The fashion conglomerate, now called Tapestry, also possesses the luxury shoe brand Stuart Weitzman, as noted by CBS News.
Fenty
Rihanna’s business empire includes Fenty Beauty and Savage X Fenty, but another notable venture is Fenty, her luxury fashion house.
CNBC reported that it debuted as LVMH’s inaugural brand led by a woman of color. With the backing of the luxury conglomerate, Fenty creates ready-to-wear clothing and accessories endorsed by Rihanna.
In 2021, LVMH and singer Rihanna decided to close her Fenty fashion label, which had been in production for less than two years, according to BBC.
Despite this, the Savage X Fenty lingerie line will remain active, along with the cosmetics lines Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skin.
Cartier
Cartier, established in 1847 in Paris, has always symbolized luxury with its exquisite jewelry and watches.
Despite its Parisian roots, Cartier is now under the ownership of the Swiss holding company Richemont.
Richemont also oversees Van Cleef & Arpels, Alaïa, and the Yoox Net-a-Porter Group. This information was reported by Luxury Bazaar.
Miu Miu
Founded in 1992 by Miuccia Prada, who took charge of her family’s renowned fashion house in 1978. Miu Miu offers a more playful approach compared to Prada’s enduring elegance.
Miuccia Prada serves as Miu Miu’s head designer and Prada’s co-creative director alongside Raf Simons.
She describes her creative process for Miu Miu as “less complicated and planned than Prada,” as noted by The Fashion Spot.
