Imagine walking down the famous boulevard of Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue with designer shopping bags covering your arms. The day was spent on splurging on luxury goods, and nothing will stop you until you get the perfect skirt, coat, bag, scents, and wallets. After working yourself up the avenue, you stop at no. 645, near the Rockefeller Center and St. Patrick’s Cathedral, at the Olympic Tower. Your eyes are taken by something bright, new, and gold. It’s Longchamp’s new flagship store, and at 4,000 square-feet big you’re eager to get in. This beautiful, newly-opened two-story shop is the stuff fashion dreams are made off, and the possibilities inside are endless.
Housed in the cinematically designed Olympic Tower, the Longchamp flagship store is trying to make a statement. They’re entering the new decade in style, and wants to make sure that fashion lovers feel their presence as we fast approach 2020. The structure around the store is made of layered rows of protruding metal ribbons in champagne hues and soft golds. They wanted to build a gilded palace and shopping paradise for patrons of the French luxury house. Upon entering, the lighting is inviting, and the visual are similar to that of a branded utopia. Rows upon rows of bags, shoes, and apparel hang side by side with the artworks of Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez. The focal point, a work entitled Transchromie Mécanique Aléatoire, explodes with color and works well with the linear elements of the new store.
