Every camera click is a moment captured. Each photo reproduces an exact emotion in a split second and a flash of light; forever frozen in four corners of a frame. Each movement is captured with one press of a button, immortalizing a pose, an expression, and a feeling. But behind the bright lights and grandiose sets, a story is yet to be flashed—a tale of the person behind the camera.
Filbert Kung, a name now making waves in the streets of Hollywood, is a fashion photographer with an interesting story behind all the beautiful stills. The Filipino photographer started his career from scratch. “My journey has been bumpy yet fulfilling. I started my career in the Philippines around 2006. I always feel that I belong somewhere else,” the photographer said.

Kung started his flashy journey with a risk. Moving from one country to another— the brave creative went on a life-changing passage in a foreign land. “I always feel that I belong somewhere else, so I decided to move to New York in 2015 and then to Los Angeles,” he reminisced. Kung’s journey was not easy at all—starting from zero, the fashion photographer made his way up through sheer hard work, patience, and perseverance.
The renowned photographer credits his purpose to the fulfillment he feels while he pursues his craft. “The reason why I left the Philippines is that I want to travel and explore my art and be able to share it around the world,” he said. In every flash of his camera and every photo shot, the dream he built upon materialized and came to being.

Kung is now at a point in his life where he can say that he has made it. Photographing various notable personalities from different fields, his unique vision has also made him a sought-after photographer in New York, Miami, Rio de Janeiro, Paris, and of course, his hometown, Manila. His signature portraits in his favorite black-and-white style captured his subjects’ emotions.
In his exhibition in Milan entitled Blinded by the Light, he took portraits of different people and told their stories through photos. The exhibit is the culmination of the photographer’s life’s work. “The Title of the exhibit is Blinded by The Light. It is my story and journey. The ups and downs of being a photographer,” he said.
