Netflix’s new reality series Soy Georgina follows the Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo’s girlfriend, Georgina Rodriguez.

After being together for five years, the show reveals the woman behind the headlines and her humble background before she met the third highest-paid athlete in the world. The show comes after the popularity of the E! series WAGS (Wives and Girlfriends) of high-profile sportsmen. It ran for three seasons from 2015 to 2017.

In Soy Georgina’s first episode, the couple shared how they met. Their paths crossed when Ronaldo visited the Madrid Gucci store Rodriguez worked at, then coincidentally started running into each other at events.

However, she admits that dating one of the world’s most famous athletes didn’t come easy. On one of their earlier dates, the couple shared an anecdote when visiting Disneyland Paris.

Ronaldo had to wear a wig, sunglasses, Rodriguez’s large scarf, and a cap to avoid fanfare. But it didn’t work as planned when, even in disguise, kids in the theme park recognized their football idol.

Humble beginnings

The 28-year-old grew up in Jaca, a city in Spain. She revisited her hometown and said, “It’s changed. But it’s where I danced and enjoyed the love of my family. All of that left a mark on me.”

“It’s very important not to forget where I come from. I know what it’s like not to have anything and what it’s like to have it all.”

The model also lived in Bristol, England, while working as a nanny to learn English.

High-profile life

She also looked back to when she first visited Ronaldo’s $6.7 million mansion.” The first time I came to Cristiano’s house, well I’d get lost,” she said in the show, comparing the mansion to her tiny apartment. “I’d want to go to the kitchen to get water, and I’d have no idea where to go.”

Rodriguez fondly adds that sometimes it took her half an hour to get to the living room because she couldn’t find her way back. After six months, she said it was only then she got a grip of the massive space.

Nowadays, Rodriguez exclusively flies on Ronaldo’s private jet, takes day trips to Paris for designer fittings, graces the cover of magazines, and attends the world’s most glamorous events like the Cannes Film Festival and F1 races.

In addition, she’s a mom of Ronaldo’s four children Cristiano Jr, Eva Maria, Alana, and Mateo. She describes her “economic stability” as a blessing as it gives her the chance to be a hands-on mother.

Soy Georgina is now available for streaming on Netflix.
