A vignette of black-and-white photos from Christian Dior Studio and paintings of modern Filipino artists like Arturo Luz and Vicente Manansala. These are only a few of the prized pieces for auction at Gavel&Block’s Emporium sale on August 10 at NEX Tower. While most auctions feature antique pieces, Gavel&Block places young and first-time collectors at the forefront. Emporium presents an astonishing range of fine art, prints, and vintage pieces.

The bustle of the marketplace
The Emporium draws inspiration from the market scene. This includes the flea market vendors on Portobello Road and Marché aux Puces de Vanves in Paris. These markets offer a diverse range of furniture, glassware, jewelry, memorabilia, paintings, and curiosities. This variety creates a busy setting for customers that Gavel&Block wants to render in Emporium.
Unlike other auctions targeted towards mature and established collectors, Emporium invites a contemporary audience. Chairman and Principal Specialist Richie Lerma shares, “With emporium, not only can [collectors] discover modern and contemporary art from local and international artists, they also have the chance to bring the art home to hopefully get started on their own personal collections.” Original prints from Salvador Dalí, Marc Chagall, and Henri Matisse are among the perfect pieces to add to one’s roster of artists. Other highlights include the Black Collage of Arturo Luz and Untitled (Market Scene) of Oscar Zalameda, another inspiration for the theme.
