Golden Boy: Yulo Wins Philippines’ Second Olympic Gold Medal

Carlos Edriel Yulo wins the gold medal in the men’s floor exercise final at the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

The Philippines now has two gold Olympic medals in its inventory. After Hidlyn Diaz’s historic win during the 2020 Olympics, Carlos Yulo clinches the second gold medal for the Philippines. Furthermore, Yulo cemented his name as one of the best male gymnasts in the world by clinching the gold medal in the men’s floor exercise finals.

Laying it all out 

Arguably the best performance of his career, Yulo scored 15.000 in the floor exercise finals of the Paris Olympics. Breaking down his score, Yulo scored 6.600 from difficulty and 8.400 from execution. He achieved this feat with a three-and-a-half twist dismount cold to seal the gold medal.

Yulo bested the Olympic 2020 champion Artem Dolgopyat of Israel and Great Britain’s Jake Jarman, who is also half Filipino. Dologpyat earned the silver medal with a 14.966. Furthermore, Jarman clinched the bronze with a score of 14.933.

This gold medal is a sweet reminder of his constant hard work and training. Furthermore, it is his Olympic comeback performance after failing to clinch a medal in the 2020 Olympics. The 24-year-old Olympic gold medalist also showed everyone how he worked hard to improve his craft after the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. With every twist and tumble, Yulo carries the dreams of every Filipino athlete dreaming to make it big in their sport.
