Gotta Catch Them All: Comme Des Garcons Is Collaborating With Pokemon - Lookbook

Pokemon already has a history of dabbling in the fashion world, such as partnerships with Adidas, Jeremy Scott, and 10 Deep.

Comme des Garcons just confirmed a collaboration with Pokemon. The Japanese, Paris-based house helmed by Rei Kawakubo announced the partnership via an Instagram post. 

Pokemon, a gaming and media franchise created by Satoshi Tajiri in 1996, has a history of dabbling in the fashion world. In 2019 alone, Pokemon partnered with various brands for diverse product launches.

That year they came out with two capsule collections with 10 Deep, Pokemon’s first collaboration with a US streetwear brand. Next was to celebrate Casio’s 25th anniversary for the Baby-G watch, which was created in limited quantities. Then, eclectic fashion designer Jeremy Scott included Pikachu in his lively Spring 2019 collection. The recognizable character was printed on hoodies, sweaters, and co-ords. 

Hype culture 

In 2020, Pokemon and Adidas worked together on the sportswear brand Advantage Shoes. Of course, other characters came to play for the release, such as Charmander, Bulbasaur, Eevee, and Pikachu. 

To follow up their hold on streetwear, the gaming company partnered with Daniel Ashram and Uniqlo UT. Ashram, a New York-based contemporary artist, designed his take on Pokemon sculptures from the future (specifically, dated 1,000 years from 2020).

Although no previews or teasers were shared on CDG x Pokemon, except for their joint logos, they’ve got the public’s attention. “[The collection will be] sold out the second it hits the website, as always,” one commenter said. While another Instagram user wants to be surprised, “I have never once seen a good pokemon fashion collab. I really hope this proves me wrong.”
