If you can’t book an appointment with a professional just yet, you can still keep your skin healthy while in lockdown.

With NCR Plus going in and out of quarantine classifications, many of the treatments and professional care we are used to have to be put on hold. To be sure, nothing replaces professional treatments, but our skin still needs attentions even when we’re stuck at home. Here are some things—and products—to keep in mind while waiting for things to go back to normal.
Exfoliation
Whether through scrubs or chemicals like AHAs and BHAs, exfoliation lifts away dead skin cells. This helps boost radiance, minimize the look of dark spots and uneven tone, while helping clear the way for better penetration of targeted and potent ingredients found in serums and moisturizers.
Check Out: Murad Vita-C Triple Exfoliating Facial. On the heels of the brand’s Vita-C Glycolic Brightening Serum, which was launched last year comes their resurfacing facial. It promises to deliver next-level benefits that mirror a microdermabrasion facial. With gold-stabilized vitamin C, it gently but effectively exfoliates to instantly smooth, brighten, and boost radiance.
Balance
The skin ecosystem is made up of billions of microorganisms invisible to the naked eye, which all live on the surface and in harmony with it. It is an integral part of your skin’s natural defense system. A balanced skin ecosystem is essential for optimal skin condition and appearance, but the balance of this ecosystem is fragile. Every day, external aggressors can throw off the balance of your skin, causing its overall quality to be disrupted. This can result to dullness, lack of moisture, rough texture, and the like.
Check out: L’Occitane Immortelle Reset Triphase Essence. Infused in a 99 percent natural origin sensorial blend of oil and water, this new essence supposedly provides great skin affinity and absorption. It helps balance and strengthen skin to reveal smooth, healthy-looking complexion. Overall skin quality is improved so that skin is more receptive to your routine. This essence is free from silicones and mineral oils. The unique three-phases are inspired by the natural water and oil composition of the skin.
Hydration
Keeping your skin hydrated improves its elasticity, which will reduce the appearance of wrinkles. A well-hydrated skin is less likely to be oily, is more resilient to external irritants, and is able to flush out toxins effectively. Also, by appearing plump and youthful, it just looks better. Apart from drinking around two liters of water everyday—sorry, juice or soda don’t count—your skin can be hydrated through skincare products.
Check out: Neal’s Yard Remedies Frankincense Intense Hydrating Essence. This new essence is clinically proven to hydrate skin for up to 24 hours through its main ingredients: purified pomegranate extract helps restore the natural flow of water in the skin; sodium hyaluronate binds water to the skin to help retain water; argan oil nourishes and strengthens to leave skin feeling soft, smooth, and radiant.
Protection
While staying at home and indoors is probably the best protection for the skin there is, sunscreen when you have to venture out is crucial. As we all know, sunscreen can help avoid sunburn and damage, and is a requirement for any skin tone or color. Wearing sunscreen is important even on cooler, overcast days as 80 percent of the sun ray’s can pass through clouds. And it is even more important if you happen to live at a higher altitude because UV exposure would be greater.
Check out: Clarins UV Plus [5P] Anti-Pollution SPF50. The French luxury skincare brand has been developing its UV Plus Multi-Protection since 1991. This latest iteration of the 30-year-old formulation apparently enhances the skin’s defense, and helps lock out skin-damaging UVA/UVB rays and pollutants such as pollen, blue light, and photo-pollution.
