The starry affair greets the premieres of some of this year’s most anticipated films.
Established in 1932, the Venice Film Festival is the oldest and one of the most prestigious events of its kind.
Every year, the festival presents world-class films while gathering of some of the most successful filmmakers and actors in the industry.
The 81st edition of the Venice Film Festival began on August 28, with the premiere of Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. The festival will run until September 7, when the awards will be announced.

Until then, here are some of the highlights from the renowned film festival so far.
Praiseworthy Films
Just like at Cannes, standing ovations have also become a tradition at the Venice Film Festival. Many of the films at this year’s edition garnered impressive applause from its audience.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, starring Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, Catherine O’Hara, Monica Bellucci, and Willem Dafoe, received a standing ovation that lasted for almost four minutes.
Award-winning filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón also debuted his new television series, Disclaimer, at the festival. The series, led by Cate Blanchett, received a five-minute standing ovation.
Hollywood A-listers Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie both received high praise at the Venice Film Festival for taking on new and challenging roles.
Kidman’s Babygirl, directed by Halina Reijn, earned a 6.5-minute standing ovation. Meanwhile, Jolie’s biographical drama Maria, directed by Pablo Larraín, had the audience cheering for eight minutes.
Walter Salles’ political film I’m Still Here and Brady Corbet’s historical drama The Brutalist both received standing ovations that exceeded 10 minutes.
Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar stunned festival goers with The Room Next Door. The film stars Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore alongside John Turturro and Alessandro Nivola. It received the longest standing ovation so far this year, lasting for 17 to 18 minutes.
Fashion Highlights
Because it’s one of the biggest events for cinema, stars dressed to the nines for the Venice Film Festival’s red carpet.
Disclaimer co-stars Blanchett and Hoyeon Jung both wore Louis Vuitton at the festival. The label dressed both actresses in bespoke creations by Nicolas Ghesquière. They then paired the gowns with High Jewelry by Francesca Amfitheatrof.
At the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice premiere, Winona Ryder wore a cropped jacket and tulle skirt by Chanel Couture while her co-star Jenna Ortega wore a custom Dior red dress.
Then for the Babygirl premiere, Kidman wore Schiaparelli’s closing look from Daniel Roseberry’s Haute Couture FW24 collection. The gown featured an organza corset bustier with black sequins and crystals. It was also paired with a long black velvet column skirt.
Meanwhile, Jolie attended the premiere of Maria in a custom Tamara Ralph look. Her asymmetric chiffon gown was accompanied with a faux fur stole, all created exclusively for the actress.
