2024 is yet another year of discovering new, exciting, and unpredictable plots of upcoming films. It is truly another year of indulging in the creative minds of celebrities, directors, and production companies.
What movies will be blockbuster hits? Which personalities will harbor depth on their respective characters? What films will make a significant impact? The list is long, but these films are worth the anticipation.

Argylle
This movie tells the story of introverted spy novelist Elly Conway. She hardly leaves her home, but the plots of her written works got too close to an underground syndicate’s activities. A spy named Aidan comes to her aid as she risks being kidnapped, killed, or both.
Bryce Dallas Howard plays novelist Elly Conway alongside Sam Rockwell who is the spy, Aidan. Argylle hits cinemas on February 2.
Lisa Frankenstein
This film talks about an unconventional “coming of RAGE love story,” just in time for the month of love. Lisa Frankenstein is a story about a teenager who has a crush on a corpse. Horrific circumstances and a “few missing body parts” are just some of the hurdles they’ll face to find love and happiness.
Lisa Frankenstein hits the cinemas on February 9. Cole Sprouse, Kathryn Newton, and Filipina celebrity Liza Soberano star in the upcoming film.
Dune: Part Two
This film is the second installment in director Denis Villeneuve’s take on Frank Herbert’s sci-fi novel. Paul Atreides reunites with Chani and the Fremen as he plots against the ones who destroyed his family.
Dune: Part Two will come on March 1, following its first film that debuted in November 2021. Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya are the lead stars headlining the film.
The First Omen
This film precedes the horror film The Omen and will further expand its story. The First Omen is the story of a young woman sent to Rome to serve at the church. However, she stumbles upon a “darkness” making her doubt the path she is pursuing.
The First Omen hits the cinemas on April 5 and is set to star Nell Tiger Free and Ralph Ineson, among others.
Civil War
The dystopian film depicts 19 American states that are about to withdraw from the country. Texas and California led the revolution and “militarized under a new American flag with only two stars” as per Screen Rant. A team of journalists travel across a country which has now been engulfed in an escalating civil war.
Kirsten Dunst takes the lead for Civil War, which hits the theaters on April 26.
The Fall Guy
Stuntman Colt Seavers left the business so he can focus on his well being, but returns when a movie star goes missing. Plot twist: Seavers’ ex was actually directing the film.
The Fall Guy is based on an 80s television show of the same name where a stunt actor “moonlights as a bounty hunter.” His stuntman skills turned out to be useful for becoming a “lawman under a cover of darkness.”
Ryan Gosling plays Colt Seavers on The Fall Guy alongside Hannah Waddingham and Emily Blunt. The movie releases on May 3.
Deadpool 3
“Deadpool will change the history of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) with Wolverine!?” exclaimed Marvel Studios Japan as per Screen Rant. True enough, Deadpool 3 will be hitting theaters this year, and Wolverine does join the cast for the third movie installment.
Ryan Reynolds returns as Wade Wilson and Hugh Jackman as Logan, or Wolverine. Audiences can start seeing Deadpool 3 worldwide come July 26.
Joker: Folie à Deux
The movie is the sequel to the 2019 film Joker, and this time, it will be significantly different than its predecessor. Aside from the fact that Lady Gaga will now be Harley Quinn in the film, Joker: Folie à Deux is now a musical. Indiewire reported folie à deux means an identical or similar mental disorder affecting two or more individuals.
Joaquin Phoenix will reprise his role as clown-for-hire Arthur Fleck alongside Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn. The film is set for release on October 4.
Wicked
The first film of a two-part film adaptation of the 2003 Broadway musical tells the story of a green skinned woman who became the Wicked Witch of the West. Wicked is one of the upcoming films we should see in 2024, which is set to start showing on November 27.
Wicked on its 2003 Broadway musical version starred Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth who played Elphaba and Glinda respectively. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande will now be the main stars on the 2024 film.
Mufasa: The Lion King
This live-action movie by Barry Jenkins depicts Pride Lands king Simba, grooms his cub to follow his paw prints. Simba’s late father Mufasa will also have his origins and backstory explored in the film.
Mufasa: The Lion King is another adaptation related to the first live-action film that debuted in 2019. Seth Rogen, Aaron Pierre, Billy Eichner, Kelvin Harrison Jr., and John Kani are some of the announced cast members. The film releases on December 20.
