It was worth the wait for Alex Asuncion and Melanie Sumalinog’s dream wedding.
This is an excerpt from Lifestyle Asia’s August 2023 Issue.
Alex Asuncion and Melanie Sumalinog have been friends and partners since they first met in 2009. Working together, they helped each other improve by sharing their skills and strengths with one another—Alex helped Melanie hone her skills in badminton while Melanie helped Alex grow his skills in sales.

It was during this exchange that their friendship blossomed into a romance. This partnership and complementary strengths and weaknesses would be the bond that would see them grow and eventually culminate in their dream wedding.
TURNING DREAMS INTO REALITY
Mike Lim, a veteran bi-lingual host to the top Chinese-Filipino families, was good friends with the couple and their community. Mike began the trend of hosting in both Mandarin and English and even Tagalog when needed. As such, he had the knowledge to find the best suppliers to create their dream wedding.
As someone they trusted to give them the very best experience, he became their wedding consultant, and was given free rein to put together a team to curate and execute a luxurious wedding around the theme of reaching the sky or reaching heaven as a tribute to the many blessings they have received from above. From the wedding coordinators to the musicians and wedding gown designer, Lim’s stamp of approval was needed.
He chose the wedding suppliers based on his experience with them. He chose the suppliers he knew who were good at their craft and delivered the best consistently. It was only for the exchange of vows did Melanie insist on her way. “I chose the color blue as their theme because it is the favorite color of Alex and ties in with the theme of reaching the sky,” says Lim. Alex credits Lim for being the brain and the heart behind their wedding.
