A Jewelry Entrepreneur’s First Steps
Suzette’s journey as a jewelry business woman began with a spark of inspiration and a deep-rooted love for jewelry.
From an early age, she was captivated by the intricate craftsmanship and the stories that jewelry can tell.
Her passion led her to explore various aspects of the industry, from gemology to jewelry
design, to gain a well-rounded understanding of the business.
As a 3rd generation jeweler in their family, she was the most interested in the trade among her siblings as she accompanied her mother in many of her business dealings from sourcing, designing, and selling.
Her fascination with diamonds, pearls, gemstones, gold and designing the pieces and seeing them finished gives her a gratifying feeling that led her to pursue the business.
This was the reason she took up the course of fine arts to prepare herself to be fully involved in the jewelry business.
An Enterprising Mindset
As an entrepreneur, Suzette’s dedication and entrepreneurial spirit were evident from the start.
She founded her own JMA jewelry brand, after her name initials, with her team of artisans, many of whom are still with her until today.
JMA is where she curated exquisite pieces that combined tradition and modernity. Her business quickly gained recognition for its unique designs and high-quality craftsmanship.
Suzette was not just selling jewelry; she was selling stories, emotions, and memories.
A big part of her continued success is that she is hands on in the business.
She shares, “Since jewelry is very delicate, expensive, and manufacturing is a tedious process, clients must be assured that the product is handled in the best care possible. After sales service is a very important aspect in the business as well.”
She adds, “Clients want to be assured that the products they buy can be repaired or any problem arising from the wear and tear can be addressed. While most jewelry companies have eliminated manufacturing, JMA has retained this aspect in the company since jewelry buyers
are quite particular as to how an expensive item should be secured.”
