Aside from the included software, the Lisa 7/7 Office System, it also includes a keyboard and a mouse. The said unit is an important transition for Apple as it paved the way for Macintosh, making future developments in the company’s personal computer lineup.
Julien’s Auctions said in a disclaimer that the computer does not currently turn on. Its estimated value is set between $1,000 to $2,000.
Pearl Harbor original battleship West Virginia life ring
Julien’s Auctions’ “Spotlight: History and Technology” event features an original life preserver ring from the battleship West Virginia. It was notable for its historic involvement in the attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II in 1941. The battleship suffered heavy damages during the attack.
The life ring is a poignant reminder of the bravery and sacrifice of those who were aboard the ship. This makes it a compelling piece for both collectors and institutions who are interested in preserving a military history relic.
Its current value is between $8,000 to $12,000, and the current bid is at $6,000.
1954 Founding of the People’s Republic of China photo album
A photo album that documented the foundation of the People’s Republic of China in 1954 graces the auction event as well. The rare piece is signed and gifted by Mao Zedong, who founded the republic, and served as a testament to his influential leadership.
It contains photographs that captured key events and figures from that era, which offered a visual narrative of early communist China. It also has a Bulgarian inscription that says, “To the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Raiko Damyanov, in honor of the fifth anniversary of the creation of the PRC – October 1954.”
Julien’s Auctions estimated its value between $20,000 to $30,000. Bidding has begun, with the current bid at $8,000.
Apparel from Steve Jobs and Howard Hughes
Former Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs and former aerospace engineer Howard Hughes have left behind a legacy of innovation that continues to inspire and shape technology today. Their contributions have profoundly impacted industries ranging from technological gadgets to aviation and beyond, setting benchmarks for generations to come.
The “Spotlight: History and Technology” auction features their personally-used items. This includes Hughes’ cream-colored crepe shirt with coconut shell buttons and his initials “H. H” at the front and his signed photo. Jobs’ suits have also made their way onto the auction lot alongside a monogrammed leather garment bag.
Hughes’ shirt is valued between $8000 to $12,000. His photograph has already exceeded its estimated price ($1,000 to $2,000) as the current bid is at $3,500.
The former Apple executive’s leather Hartmann Luggage has a value of approximately $2,000 to $4,000.
Jobs wore the Wilkes Bashford suit during the 1984 Macintosh computer release photoshoot. It is valued between $20,000 to $30,000. Another suit, which he wore in an event in 1980 is also up for grabs, with the same estimated price as the former.
A glimpse behind modern world history
Julien’s Auctions Chief Executive David Goodman expressed that the lot will invite historians and collectors to unveil new narratives.
“We are also proud to represent the legacies of Howard Hughes and Steve Jobs, two of the most influential figures of technology and innovation,” he added. “Personal items from their homes and headquarters [will] offer a glimpse into their genius and mythology which have captivated the world.”
History/Technology Specialist Mitch Kaba shared his sentiments about the auction, too. “‘Spotlight: History and Technology’ is important because it gives people the opportunity to own a piece of time,” he elaborated. “These are relics of the past. You have the chance to own these, and to hold them in your hands.”
