LA Style Guide: Transition Outfits For The Local Weather

Incorporate dressing for the weather as you explore what transition wear is and which pieces to choose for the changing season.

The Philippines’ tropical climate is always a factor when dressing up. Moreover, the country only has dry and rainy seasons, so choosing pieces appropriate for the weather is always challenging. We are in between seasons—from the cold, rainy season, we are slowly transitioning to the humid, dry one. Thus, having transition wear in your closet to prepare for summer is important.

What Is Transition Wear

The idea of transition wear in the Philippines hasn’t been explored deeply. This is because our country has unpredictable weather patterns and overlapping seasons. Filipinos tend to style their outfits based on the daily weather rather than the overall season or climate. Furthermore, unlike their Western counterparts, local designers do not create collections based on the season.

Looking for and creating a transition outfit all boils down to key pieces that serve the purpose of being comfortable in the current weather. Though local designers do not necessarily make lines according to the season—they have certain selections in their catalogs that are perfect for building transition outfits. In addition, mixing and matching pieces to create a transition outfit would work best in our country.

What To Wear

Since summer in the Philippines tends to be humid, it is important to wear clothes made from light and breathable materials. Lightweight fabrics are ideal for summer clothes. However, pairing pieces made from lightweight fabrics with thicker ones is ideal since we are in between seasons.

Wearing a linen or an organza top with jeans is an example of a good combination. Finding balance within your wardrobe is key to wearing a transitional outfit. Combining individual pieces that are breathable with warmer ones creates a good balance for an ensemble.

More Tips

Furthermore, aside from the materials, colors should also be considered. Lighter colors and neutrals are the preferred choice during the summer—incorporating them with the darker shades of the rainy season would match the overall transitioning weather. Moreover, you can also wear clothes made from lighter materials in darker colors.

Aside from clothes, you can also incorporate accessories that can enhance your transition wear outfit.
