The restaurant is within J Hotel in the Chinese mega city.
Guinness just named Shanghai-based restaurant Heavenly Jin, which is at 556 meters above ground, as the “World’s Highest Restaurant in a Building.”
The restaurant is on the 120th of Shanghai Tower, within J Hotel, which opened just last year. Shanghai Tower, which opened in 2015, is the third tallest building in the world, after Dubai’s Burj Khalifa and Kuala Lumpur’s Merdeka 118.
J Hotel is said to be within the business hub of Shanghai and an eight-minute Maglev train ride to Pudong International Airport.
“If the adjacent, grand waterfront façade of The Bund just across the Huangpu river represents Shanghai’s glorious iconic history, the Lujiazui area, with its shimmering towers of glass and steel and boulevards of prosperity, is symbolic of its modern status,” a note on the hotel’s location reads.
Closer to God
Heavenly Jin describes itself as a fusion of diverse culinary arts, helmed by chefs from around the world.
“Guests are greeted by a 30-meter-long Silk Road-themed Italian mosaic made of dozens of rich materials, manifesting openness and inclusivity,” reads a description on its website. “Inside the restaurant, diners are seated beneath a sky of ribbon-like crystal lights as they enjoy delicacies prepared by chefs from all over the world—a heavenly experience in the clouds that is not to be missed.”
It serves modern European, Jiangnan, Cantonese, and Japanese cuisine to 256 seats, including five private dining rooms.
Despite this record, J Hotel isn’t considered as the world’s highest hotel as Guinness only considers those that occupy the entire structure. With 165 rooms, the hotel only occupies the top floors of Shanghai Tower. Heavenly Jin is also not the world’s highest restaurant. At 5,340 meters, Bolivia’s Chacaltaya, which is within a ski resort of the same name, significantly rises above the restaurant in Shanghai.
China also has another restaurant record. At 422.8 meters and on the 106th floor of the Canton Tower in Guangzho, Twist is the highest revolving restaurant in the world.
