All About ‘LG7’
So far, Lady Gaga has described her currently untitled album (dubbed LG7 for now) as “chaotic” and “genre-bending.”
“I think in that way it is a deeply personal look into my mind as a producer and the way I think about music,” she said in a Vogue interview.
With the new album, the singer returns to a darker style of pop, similar to her album The Fame Monster which came out over a decade ago.
Last month, she dropped the first single and music video from LG7, titled “Disease.” The electro-pop song is accompanied by an eerie music video.
“I think a lot about the relationship I have with my own inner demons. It’s never been easy for me to face how I get seduced by chaos and turmoil. It makes me feel claustrophobic,” the singer wrote on Instagram, sharing a clip from the music video.
“‘Disease’ is about facing that fear, facing myself and my inner darkness, and realizing that sometimes I can’t win or escape the parts of myself that scare me. That I can try and run from them but they are still part of me and I can run and run but eventually I’ll meet that part of myself again, even if only for a moment.”
Over the past few days, Lady Gaga also released two videos of her performing the song live. The first is a piano-led acoustic version while the second is an electric guitar rendition. The results were rawer and more stripped-back takes on the song.
Always a Pop Queen
While Lady Gaga has been acting more in movies lately (A Star Is Born, House of Gucci, and Joker: Folie à Deux), she has also had several music releases.
Back in August, she released a standalone collaboration with Bruno Mars, “Die With A Smile.” The hugely successful single has been nominated for two Grammys, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Duo Recording.
The song also set the record as the fastest in history to reach one billion streams on Spotify. “I will completely cherish this moment,” Lady Gaga wrote on social media. “I’m so grateful to monsters and hooligans and so many people all over the world who fell in love with our song. I feel so lucky.”
The singer is now set to headline Coachella next year, along with Post Malone and Green Day. Taking place in April, it is one of the largest music festivals in the world.
“I have long dreamed of throwing a massive night of chaos in the desert. I’ve had a vision I’ve never been able to fully realize at Coachella for reasons beyond our control but I wanted to come through for music fans,” she shared.
