Lenny Kravitz Gets His Name On Hollywood Walk Of Fame

The four-time Grammy winner is the 2,774th person to get a star at the Los Angeles landmark.

American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and actor Lenny Kravitz received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Tuesday, March 12.

With a career spanning over three decades, he has transcended genres and styles with his music. It’s only fitting that his star is located in front of the historic Capitol Records Tower.

Touching Tributes

Zoë Kravitz was present at the ceremony—along with her fiancée, Channing Tatum—to support her father. The actress and singer took to the stage to honor him with a humorous and heartwarming speech.

“Lenny Kravitz, I’ve had the pleasure of knowing you for a long time,” she began. “And I must say, being your daughter has been one of the great adventures of my life.”

Kravitz was only 24 years old when he had his daughter and for that reason, she said that in many ways, they grew up together. “We’ve been through a lot. We’ve seen a lot, I’ve seen a lot. I’ve seen you change in the most beautiful ways, I’ve seen the way you’ve stayed the same in the most important ways,” she continued.

“I’ve seen the way you show up, take care of the people you love, I’ve seen your incredible dedication to your art, but mostly, I’ve seen through your shirts,” she said, as her father burst out laughing.

She roasted him even further, adding “Your relationship with the netted shirt is probably your longest one, and it works. You two make each other better—and if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. It’s a beautiful thing.”

But of course, she also had many loving and heartfelt words for her father. “Life is your art and that is why your music is so inspiring and important. You make people feel alive, you remind them of the only thing that matters: love.”

“Congratulations, you’re a star,” she said, ending her speech before the two shared a tight hug.

Kravitz’s close friend, Oscar winner Denzel Washington, also went up on stage to give a speech. “God has blessed him with an unbelievable talent, but even more so, an unbelievable heart,” he said, also calling Kravitz “a giver” and “a lover.”

The Man Of The Hour

Born in New York, Kravitz relocated to Los Angeles when his mother, actress Roxie Roker, was casted in The Jeffersons. “To see my name, Lenny Kravitz, permanently engraved on the same streets I used to walk is a surreal, indescribable feeling,” he said during his own speech.

His first concert was actually at the Hollywood Bowl—just a few minutes away from his star—when he sang with the California Boys Choir. Today, he’s known for his own repertoire of music, including hits such as “It Ain’t Over ’til It’s Over,” “Are You Gonna Go My Way,” and “Fly Away.”

From 2012 to 2013, he played the role of Cinna in the wildly successful The Hunger Games and Catching Fire movies. He has also played supporting roles in the films Precious and The Butler.

Last year, he wrote and performed the song “Road To Freedom” for the Netflix film Rustin. The song received nominations from the Golden Globes and the Critics Choice Awards.

Having released 11 albums and sold 40 million copies worldwide, he’s currently nominated as a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. This year, he received the Music Icon Award at the People’s Choice Awards and the Fashion Icon Award from the CFDA.
