Lifestyle Asia’s February 2019 issue is Dong Ronquillo’s maiden issue since coming onboard as Editor in Chief. Keeping with the magazine’s yearly tradition, the latest edition is our highly anticipated “Game Changers” issue. Gracing our cover are 18 young people from Philippine society doing something important with their lives. In a special preview, we take you through the pages of the new Lifestyle Asia. New Year, New Look
Dong Ronquillo officially joined the publication on December of 2018. He tasked the current Lifestyle Asia team to create a fresher, younger look for the New Year. Ronquillo also decided that the content of the magazine will reflect on the theme of “living a meaningful life.” Each person featured within our new pages were asked the question: “What does living a meaningful life mean to you?” It is the common thread amongst the stories in our magazine.
Along with the new message, a lighter, more modern aesthetic was decided upon for the luxury magazine. The pages of Lifestyle Asia now feature more breathing room. The use of boarders, bigger photographs, and less text give the magazine a fresh, minimalist aesthetic.
A New Lifestyle Asia Voice
Newly conceptualized sections have been added, while dated ones have been removed. One of the most exciting new additions is a section called “LA Voice”, essays written by an individual with a strong point of view on a subject. For our very first LA Voice, journalist and broadcaster Karen Davila answers the question, “What makes a game changer?”.
Other notable sections include “Playground”, which features all the latest happenings including newly opened restaurants and shops to visit. Popular section “Giving Back” is now called “Meaningful Life”, chronicling how certain people or organizations help the community. The “Catalyst” and “Ground Breakers” sections are people profiles of individuals doing important and impressive work. We’ve also adapted “RSVP” into the magazine. Once a best-selling coffee table book about entertaining, the new section now features parties hosted by Manila’s most discerning hosts and hostesses.
Meaningful Stories
Aligning with our goal to always create content with substance, the February 2019 issue is packed with stories about the people worth watching during the New Year. We spoke with designer Rosanna Ocampo about her passion for making clothes right before her 10th anniversary celebration. Dennis Uy was also photographed and interviewed. The mogul details his climb up the ladder of success to becoming one of the youngest moguls in the country.
Keith Haw, the proprietor of Import Hook-Up, a company that specializes in modifying cars, shares his story about how his passion became a lucrative business. Juana Manahan Yupangco headlines the “Meaningful Life” section, writing about how Mesa Ni Misis, an advocacy she started, plans to teach housewives the importance of using the right ingredients for meals. Tim Yap also gives us a tour of new stores in BGC for an early 2019 trend report.
Class of 2019
Each year, Lifestyle Asia gathers a group of young people who we believe are changing the game in their respective careers. It has become one of the most highly anticipated features in the magazine for the last ten years. This year, the Class of 2019 impresses. Included are sisters Ann and Billie Dumaliang who founded Masungi Georeserve, Spring founder Bettina Jose (who is spreading mental health awareness through her organization), emerging artist Jono Pisano, entrepreneur and youth leader Martin Tan (who founded the first men’s cosmetics brand in the Philippines) and Electric Studio proprietor Kristina Sy.
