The home’s gallery has a painted ceiling that is similar to the Sistine Chapel.
The 14,175-square feet New York mansion of the late fashion designer Gianni Versace was just listed by Sotheby’s Realty for $70 million.

Versace bought the mansion in 1995, two years before his tragic passing. Built in 1950, the home bears marks of the designer’s tastes and proclivities, matching well with his over-the-top couture: intricate Italian Marble floors, painted ceilings and walls, mosaic and Austrian parquet floors, five fireplaces, and opulent baths.
The house’s current owners meticulously restored the property, which, according to Sotheby’s lot description, “offers an opportunity to live like fashion royalty.” Seven bedrooms, seven full bathrooms, and three partial bathrooms are spread across six floors.
“This stately, spacious 35 foot wide Limestone Mansion sited on a 35- by 100-foot lot has approximately 14,175 interior square feet on six floors with 3,025 exterior sq. ft. of magical trellised Garden overlooked by a rear Balcony which runs the full width of the house. A Rooftop Terrace with Gazebo overlooks Fifth and Madison,” the description continues.
Sotheby’s says that “Versace’s genius and vision is revealed over the first 4 floors, each presenting the designer’s legendary taste and permeates the home.”
On the third level is a gallery leading to a room with a painted ceiling reminiscent of the Sistine Chapel. This features restored 19th century panels sourced by Versace from a Florentine palazzo showing Elysian scenes.
The upper most floors, the description says, were “redesigned in a lighter, more whimsical manner.” These levels include terrazzo floorings with marble inserts, a Game Lounge with billiards and arcade games, and a Moroccan-style Media Room.
