Renowned videographer Jason Magbanua talks about his work, which has changed the world of wedding cinematography for the better.
This is an excerpt from Lifestyle Asia’s June 2023 Issue.
Even to those outside the wedding industry, Jason Magbanua is a name that needs no further introduction. His works featuring the intimate ceremonies of Anne Curtis and Erwan Heussaff in New Zealand, and Solenn Heussaff and Nico Bolzico in France, have garnered millions of views on Youtube alone. An explanation as to why isn’t required once you watch a piece from the filmmaker.
The videographer describes his style as one that seamlessly blends documentary storytelling with cinematic aesthetics. “Each film is a testament to the unique love shared between two individuals, encapsulating their journey in a captivating and emotionally charged narrative,” he explained in an exclusive interview with Lifestyle Asia.

Indeed, Magbanua doesn’t just film the grander scenes of a marriage ceremony—in his videos are snippets of quotidian intimacies, each one showcasing the breadth and depth of human connection. It could be a brother making breakfast, a mother choking up as she reads a heartfelt letter from her child, a groom wiping away tears upon seeing the love of his life, or two people sharing a quiet moment and tender glances.
A FRESH PERSPECTIVE
“I’ve been a wedding filmmaker for the past two decades,” shared Magbanua with Lifestyle Asia. The maturity and skill found in the filmmaker’s work is a testament to those long years of experience.
Magbanua has joined his fair share of international competitions and belongs to the first wave of Pinoy wedding videographers that received global recognition for their work. He’s collaborated with some of the biggest names in the country, including Jess Wilson and Mortiz Gastl for their wedding in Austria, Camila Lhuillier and Andrea Albani for their ceremony in Italy, and Verniece Enciso and Alf Dichaves’ wedding last March, just to name a few.
One could say that Magbanua’s name is a brand in itself, one linked to artfully-crafted films; but it wasn’t always like this.
“Wedding videos were [once] long and boring, static and uninteresting. They were also fairly inexpensive: not a lot of thought, skill, passion, and craftsmanship went into them,” shared the videographer. “But I wanted to do something different—I wanted my wedding films to be dynamic, emotional, and sometimes coming out of left field but always unforgettable.”
