Made in Belgium: Sofitel Manila to Host First Belgian Beer Festival in the Philippines

The festive times are well upon us and that only means two things to come in excess: food and alcohol.  No other form of alcohol is most common during the holidays, than the well-trusted beer. A staple at every noche buena, a fresh cold bottle is always a good compliment to any meal and a favorite to many titos at parties. To celebrate this ever enjoyable drink, Sofitel has a beer festival that puts beer at center stage.

Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, in collaboration with Les Deux Belges, launches the first ever Belgian beer festival in the country. The event will feature over 30 varieties of authentic beer from Belgian breweries supplied by Les Deux Belges. The grand event will be held on November 30 at Sofitel’s scenic Sunset Pavillon. The night will be bringing a long tradition from Belgium were they’ve held the beer-centric celebration for over 15 years. The event, aptly named “Made in Belgium” is bound to highlight the quality lagers that were sourced from authentic breweries from all across Belgium.

A Taguig-based importer of premium Belgian beers, Les Deux Belges is dedicated to promoting and bringing in quality Belgian products for the local market to enjoy. Romain Hotterbeex, Les Deux Belges’ Chief Drinking Officer (yes, that job exists), was present during the event’s media preview to educate and talk about their vast roster of beers that will be available during the main event. “We decided to do this event with Sofitel for people to discover and to understand more about Belgian beer, and experience a part of the culture we have in Belgium,” he shared.

As an event that would open up the local palate to the flavors of Belgian beer, their selection is a diverse set that ranging from light blondes to deep stouts, showcasing the varied and vibrant flavors of their craft. Among the beers offered, highlight bottles include Brasserie C’s Black C with its rich dark flavors of coffee and cacao; Brussels Beer Project’s Jungle Joy, a fruity beer with mango and passion fruit; and the strong and hoppy bitterness of De Halve Maan’s Brugse Zot Dubbel.

Aside from the beer, the event will also feature distinct Belgian fare to pair the drinks with. Created by the local culinary artisans at Sofitel the banquet will include Beef Carbonnade, Chicken Waterzooi in Ramekins, Belgian-style Burger with Endive, Belgian Fries, Croustillons with Whipped Cream and Speculoos Crumbs, and many more.

Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila is located at CCP Complex, Roxas Blvd, Pasay, 1300 Metro Manila. For tickets and inquiries, contact (0917) 309-2111.
