Christopher Nolan has already begun casting for his next film—whose plot remains a mystery—with a star-studded cast including Zendaya, Tom Holland, Matt Damon, Lupita Nyong’o, and Anne Hathaway.
Hot on the heels of Oscar-winning Oppenheimer’s (2023) success, Christopher Nolan has already begun working on his next big film under Universal Pictures, which is initially set to release on July 17, 2026 according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Here’s everything we know (so far) about the highly-anticipated yet top-secret flick.
Far From Contemporary
Beyond this date, not much has been released about the new piece, as Nolan remains tight-lipped about its premise or general plot. That said, the filmmaker is in the thick of his casting process (with filming to begin in early 2025 according to Newsweek), and the line-up of familiar talents hints at a promising cinematic experience.
Sources say that the movie will not be set in the present day, as The Hollywood Reporter reveals, though there’s been no confirmation of whether it will be a period film set in the past like Oppenheimer or a more futuristic piece.
A Star-Studded Cast
Earlier on, it was announced that Matt Damon (who previously worked with Nolan in his critically-acclaimed Interstellar) and Tom Holland would star in Nolan’s upcoming film. They were joined by Zendaya, Anne Hathaway (another Nolan collaborator from Interstellar), and more recently, Lupita Nyong’o, making the current line-up quite the star-studded one.
The Nolan film is also the first non-Marvel movie where off-screen couple Zendaya and Holland have been enlisted to work together, both starring in the lead roles of Holland’s Spiderman movie franchise (2017 to present).
“All I can say is that I’m incredibly excited and obviously honored,” Holland expresses in a Good Morning America interview. “That’s all I can say, because to be honest that’s all I really know. […] When the opportunity came in, it was the phone call of a lifetime. Reminiscent of getting that call about Spiderman [Homecoming] (2017) 10 years ago.”
